Editorial Standards for Wire Fence
Our content represents who we are. That’s why we go to great lengths to create helpful content that puts the customer first.
Content Types
You will find the following types of content on our website
- 90% of our content is focused on practical, easy-to-follow guides about the products we sell, such as videos and installation guides on our Gabion category page or ‘How To’ blogs about Chicken Wire
- 10% of our content is focused on company updates such as customer projects, charity work and press appearances
Expertise & Experience
Our content is written by a full-time staff member with real-life experience using the products. You can read about their experience in their bios such as our founder John’s bio
Wherever possible, we use the products we are writing about in real life. This experience helps us write accurately and take unique images and videos. For example, here is a picture of our team installing a fence kit to create installation instructions for our customers.
Editorial Process
Our editorial process has been created to ensure that we publish the most useful content we can for our customers, as follows;
Research & Planning
We have a simple yet rigorous research method to ensure our content is genuinely helpful.
- Step 1: To ensure we are creating content that matters to our customers we listen to the questions they ask our team via live chat, email and phone calls.
- Step 2: We don’t just start writing. We will look at forum conversations and social media for related issues/questions.
- Step 3: We will also look at blogs on the same subject to check that we are writing content we can significantly improve with better images and information. If we can’t improve then we won’t publish.
- Step 4: We will use the products to share insightful and factually correct tips and tricks based on real-life experience (see our team installing a new fencing product). If the product is too big/time-consuming to install we will create illustrations like our Chain Link Installation guide
- Step 5: The content is written by a full-time staff member. Their author bio will appear at the top of each blog displaying their relevant experience/expertise.
- Step 6: The content is fact-checked by someone with equal or more experience to ensure it is accurate. This is usually someone else in the Wire Fence team but occasionally we will ask our suppliers if we need to check specific technical details.
- Step 7: Our content will also be read by someone without experience to ensure it is easy to read. This may include new team members or friends and family and ensures our customers can consume the content effortlessly.
- Step 8: If applicable we will optimise the blog for keywords and then publish 🙂
Keeping Content Updated
We monitor all of our content to ensure customers find it as helpful as possible. If they don’t then we will update it
- Customer Feedback: We collect feedback via phone calls, live chat and blog comments.
- Google Analytics Performance: we have internal monthly meetings to analyse the engagement metrics of our content. If a piece of content isn’t engaging our customers we will improve the content.
