Case Study: Transforming Timber Planters with Gabion Raised Beds
- Project: Planter Reconstruction
- Gabions: Wire Fence
- Stones: Gallagher
- Construction: Burr Landscaping
Project Background
The original softwood planters had started to lean and bulge after years of exposure to the elements. Once dismantled, extensive rot was discovered, making replacement the only practical long-term solution.
Solution
To create a more durable and attractive feature, the old timber planters were replaced with gabion baskets filled with approximately six tonnes of stone.
Installation Process
After the old planters were removed, the flat-pack gabion baskets were assembled and positioned before being filled with locally sourced stone. The new raised beds were built to provide a robust, low-maintenance solution that complements the property’s character.
Final Result
The finished gabion planters provide a strong, long-lasting alternative to the original timber structures while enhancing the appearance of the garden. They create attractive raised planting areas that are built to withstand the elements for many years to come.
