Case Study: Gabion Wall Fence

  • Project: Gabion Wall Fence Feature
  • Construction: 2023

Case Study Summary

This project features a freestanding gabion wall used as a fence. Stone-filled gabion baskets are a great choice for fencing thanks to their long lifespan, low maintenance and environmentally friendly design. They’re also relatively simple to build, making them a popular option for creating strong, attractive garden boundaries. To ensure the gabion wall remains straight and retains its shape over time, it’s important to use gabion baskets made from at least 4mm thick wire.

“I really like how this project makes the fence part of the outdoor living space rather than just something that marks the boundary. The built-in seating is a great touch, and it shows how versatile gabion baskets can be.”

Erno, Sales Support Specialist at Wire Fence

Final Result

In this project, the gabion fence has been combined with timber decking and built-in seating to create a feature that’s not only practical but also adds character to the outdoor space. The completed project demonstrates how a gabion fence can become a standout landscape feature rather than simply a property boundary.

  1. I want to build a freestanding Gabion garden wall about four metres long and one metre high. The ground will be stabilised with 20 centimetres of cement and gravel. Can I use 30 cm wide cages?
