Case Study: Gabion Water Feature (by Mark and Kay Kenyon)
- Project: Water Feature Gabion Backdrop
- Client: Mark and Kay Kenyon
- Construction: 27.03.2026
Project Background
The rear patio had several water feature designs over the years, but none worked as planned. The original concrete structure proved too difficult to maintain, and the later wooden surround eventually rotted away despite the water feature being sunk below ground to reduce leaf and dirt ingress.
Solution
After doing some research, Mark realised custom cut gabion baskets were the best choice. Not only would these walls provide a strong, long-lasting structure, they would also add a contemporary look to the garden design.
“By comparing the cost of installing the gabion wall with other solutions, and considering the ease of the installation process — made even simpler by the provided video guides — Mark was confident he was making the right decision.”

Installation Process
The installation was quick and straightforward from digging out the earth and putting down some loose hardcore to using the helical connectors and the pre-cut and pre-clipped baskets. The baskets were filled with natural stone to create a rustic yet modern backdrop for the water feature, blending seamlessly into the surrounding garden.
Final Result
The water feature itself holds special meaning for the Kenyon family, so keeping it at the heart of the design was important.
“We have already had significantly better feedback on this feature than the two previous attempts, so we think we have got it right this time.” – shared Mark, much to our delight.
