New Community Bench unveiled in Brighton
On 14th August, Legend on the Bench unveiled its 140th Suicide Prevention Bench at Mile Oak Medical Centre in Brighton, creating a lasting place of support and hope for the local community.
A community effort
The new bench brought together local people, supporters and volunteers who all played a part in making the project possible.
Alongside the bench, a mural carrying the words “You are not Alone” was unveiled, adding another meaningful reminder that support is available, even during the most difficult moments.
The project was made possible through the determination and fundraising efforts of Karen Morley-Freer, with support from Lisa, Mile Oak Medical Centre & Community Garden, the Morley Freer fundraisers and other local supporters.
The installation itself was also a team effort. Active Pump Services and Portslade Together supplied and fitted the base for the bench, helping turn the project from an idea into a permanent part of the community space.
About Legend on the Bench
Legend on the Bench is a suicide prevention charity placing informative benches with crisis support information in parks across the UK and Ireland. This Brighton installation is the charity’s 140th bench.
Supporting the project
Wire Fence was pleased to play a small part in bringing the Brighton project together by donating the gabion materials used as part of the bench installation.
“It is especially meaningful to see our products being used in projects that go beyond their practical purpose and contribute to something that can have a positive impact on people’s lives.”

A reminder that no one is alone
The unveiling was described by Legend on the Bench as a day filled with warmth, togetherness and reflection. Speeches from Lisa and Karen highlighted the importance of the bench and the hope, strength and love behind it.
The message at the heart of the project is a simple but powerful one: you are not alone.
The new bench will now remain at Mile Oak Medical Centre as a permanent reminder of that message and of the community that came together to make it possible.
