DIY Autumn Wreath for National Pumpkin Day

What is National Pumpkin Day?
International Pumpkin Day, celebrated on October 26th, is a delightful occasion for enthusiasts to indulge in everything related to this seasonal favourite! Enjoy a warm pumpkin spice latte, carve jack-o’-lanterns, or create DIY decorations and treats. Visiting a local patch is essential—pick the perfect pumpkins, take a hayride, and revel in the cosy autumn atmosphere.
Step by Step Tutorial
- Experience Required: Medium
- Tools Required: Pliers, Hot Glue Gun, Cutting Tool (Hacksaw)
- Materials Required: 3mm MDF Sheet, Chicken wire (40×40 cm piece), Wire, White Acrylic Paint, Decorations (artificial flowers, artificial leaves)
Step 1) Prepare Your Supplies
- Start by gathering all your supplies and pick out the decorations you’d like to use for your wreath.
Step 2) Draw Your Shape
- Take your MDF sheet and sketch a pumpkin shape on it with a pencil.
Step 3) Cut Out the Pumpkin Shape
- Using a hacksaw or another cutting tool, carefully cut out the pumpkin shape you’ve drawn.
Step 4) Paint Your Shape
- Paint your pumpkin shape with acrylic paint. We’ve gone with white, but feel free to pick whatever colour you like for your autumn wreath.
Step 5) Cut the Chicken Wire
- Using pliers, cut the chicken wire to match the size and shape of your pumpkin.
- In this porject 13mm x 13mm chicken wire was used.
Step 6) Attach the Chicken Wire
- Use your hot glue gun to fix the chicken wire to the back of your shape in a few spots.
Step 7) Add Wire Details
- Cut some pieces of wire to outline the edges of the wreath and follow the lines of the shape.
Step 8) Wrap the Wire in Twine
- Wrap the wire pieces with jute twine for a rustic look for your autumn wreath , then secure the ends with your hot glue gun.
Step 9) Attach the Wrapped Wires
- Glue the wrapped wire pieces onto your shape, leaving the top uncovered so you can decorate it later.
Step 10) Decorate Your Autumn Wreath
- Take your chosen decorations, like artificial flowers and leaves, and arrange them on your autumn wreath. Secure them in place with hot glue.
Step 11) Make the Pumpkin Stem
- Fold a piece of wire, wrap it with twine, and attach it to the back of your pumpkin to create a stem.
Step 12) DIY Autumn Wreath Ready
- Your DIY pumpkin-shaped autumn wreath is ready to go! Hang it on your door or pop it on a shelf for a cosy autumnal touch, just in time to celebrate National Pumpkin Day!
